The City of Sanford is hosting a National Night Out (NNO) celebration on Tuesday to bring together first responders, elected officials, and the community.
The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sanford Municipal Center. It will include a touch-a-truck, live DJ, demonstrations, community resources, and yard games. There will be prizes, giveaways, and free food from Lazy J’s Concessions and Tacos El Primo while supplies last.
The touch-a-truck will feature the emergency vehicles called to respond to crisis situations such as Sanford police, fire, and public works; First Health EMS; the Army National Guard; Central Electric; Gordon Paint & Body; and Duke Life Flight.
“We hope that meeting and getting to know first responders in a fun environment will help ease some of the stress and scariness of future emergencies,” says the City’s NNO coordinator Kelly Miller.
National Night Out is a program of the National Association of Town Watch. This is 41st anniversary of the National Night Out program and the 31st anniversary of the City of Sanford’s participation. The goal for the program is to build relationships between neighbors and the first responders who serve them.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Lee County Enrichment Center will host an NNO program for older adults. The hour-long program will offer safety tips from Sanford’s police officers and firefighters. The program is open to all and will begin at 10:30 a.m.
