To celebrate planting 100 trees since being named a Tree City USA community in 2013, the Sanford Appearance Commission has set a goal to plant another 50 trees before the end of the year.
“With the City of Sanford celebrating its sesquicentennial year, we thought planting the 150th tree would be a really special way to remember the past while looking forward to the future,” says Liz Whitmore, City planner and liaison the Commission.
To reach this goal, the Appearance Commission is accepting donations of any amount. All donations will be used to purchase trees native to the piedmont region. A variety of native trees will be planted throughout the city limits of Sanford on public property.
Individual donations of more than $150 or corporate donations of more than $300 will qualify for a personalized tree tag. All donors will receive a special certificate and acknowledgement on the City of Sanford and Sanford150 websites.
Donations can be made online at www.friendsofsanford.com/appearance or by submitting a check made payable to Friends of Sanford, Inc. with “150 Trees” on the memo line. Checks may be sent to Friends of Sanford c/o Liz Whitmore, 115 Chatham Street, Box 11 in Sanford or delivered to the Buggy Company building.
All donations must be received by the end of the day on Friday, September 13, 2024. Trees will be purchased and planted after this date.
