Program Overview
National Night Out (NNO) is a community police partnership that aims to:
- Generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs,
- Heighten crime prevention awareness,
- Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back, and
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit.
NNO provides an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know your elected and city officials, fire fighters, local police officers, and neighbors.
NNO 2023
The City of Sanford will hold National Night Out on October 3, 2023. To participate, neighborhood coordinators can hold a block party, a community watch meeting, a meet-and-greet, or any other activity that brings the neighborhood together.

Important: Registration will close on September 22, 2023 to allow us enough time to distribute NNO-themed materials.
Project 365: Fire Safety & Prevention
Our focus during NNO is fire safety and prevention. The Sanford Fire Department shares fire prevention materials and raises awareness about the importance of smoke detectors in every home. Smoke detectors and installation are offered to all participants.
To receive a free smoke detector and arrange installation, contact Krista Thomas at 919-777-1301.
30 Years of Participation
The City of Sanford has participated in National Night Out since 1993. Each year, the City has won the NNO National Award for recognition of outstanding participation in America's Night Out Against Crime.
In 2017, our program placed first in the nation for our population size and first in the state across all population sizes.
