AVAILABILITY OF HOUSING REHABILITATION FUNDS

2017 URGENT REPAIR Program (URP)

City of Sanford

The City of Sanford is soliciting applicants for the 2017 Urgent Repair Program (URP), financed with $100,000 from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) and a local match of $10,000.  Applicants must be homeowners whose homes are in need of rehabilitation and who reside in Lee County. The homeowner must be the occupant of the home and must meet certain low income requirements, be disabled and/or at least 62 years of age. The application process to determine eligibility and the amount of rehabilitation to be accomplished shall be done according to NCHFA 2017 Urgent Repair Rehabilitation Standards. If you have already received an application package in the past week you do not need to call about a new one. Qualified waiting list applicants were mailed an application on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Approximately 14 housing units in total will receive housing rehabilitation assistance.  Eligible households must be low income (see chart below), owner-occupied, and have housing conditions of an emergency nature that affect the life, health or safety of the occupants. The City of Sanford Community Development Staff will determine if the income requirements of the household and the needed renovations to the property qualify for the program.  The City will receive applications through June 7, 2018 and may reopen the application period at a later date if not enough initial applicants qualify for the program.
