At its June 18, 2024 meeting, Sanford City Council approved the City of Sanford’s budget for fiscal year 2024-2025, which includes rate increases for water and wastewater users.
Customers in Sanford will see a 6-percent increase for both water and wastewater, effective on July 1, 2024. The average in-city customer with combined services will pay an additional $3.95. To view the new rate schedule, go to www.sanfordnc.net/utility-services and select “Rates” from the left sidebar.
The increases are necessary to maintain and repair the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure, help fund additional personnel to meet the City’s growth needs, and accommodate inflation.
The City is also expanding its water filtration facility to ensure its customers have the benefit of the newest advances in water treatment. For example, the expanded facility will be equipped with granular activated carbon filtration to help remove emerging, unregulated contaminants. Learn more about the expansion here.
The rate increases are not the result of Sanford taking on Pittsboro’s service area, noted City Manager Hal Hegwer when he first presented the budget to Council on June 4, 2024. “We are maintaining separate cost centers for Sanford and Pittsboro. Only the expenses associated with Sanford will affect Sanford customers.”
Along with the rate increases, the FY 2024-2025 budget increases the municipal sanitation fee by $10 per year. View the FY 2024-2025 budget ordinance here.
As a reminder, starting July 1, 2024, TriRiver Water will provide all water and wastewater information and services for the City of Sanford and the Town of Pittsboro. Learn more about this change here.
