The City of Sanford Appearance Commission invites the community to the Sanford Municipal Center on Saturday for Bee City Field Day, a morning of activities dedicated to bees and pollinator preservation.
Award-winning Master Beekeeper Jody Moore and Dennis Brown, President of the Lee County Bee Keepers Association, will answer questions about bees and beekeeping. Attendees can observe the City of Sanford's bee hives and watch a sugar dump demonstration.
The Appearance Commission will give out free bookmarks, honey candy, and pollinator plant seeds. They will also offer preorders for a Bee City t-shirt ($22) or sweatshirt ($30).
The Extension Master Gardeners of Lee County will offer bee-friendly plants from Dutch Buffalo Farm (Pittsboro NC) and North Creek Nursery (PA) for purchase ($5-$10 range). Midnight Bee Supply will have a booth with beekeeping supplies available for purchase.
There will be a silent auction for a 10"x 8" butterfly painting by local artist Chris Dalton and for custom-made pottery mugs.
Bee City Field Day will run from 9am to noon, rain or shine. The municipal center is located at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street in Sanford.
