The City of Sanford is excited to announce it will celebrate National Night Out on the first Tuesday in October again this year.
National Night Out is an initiative of the National Association of Town Watch that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. The City of Sanford has participated in the annual event since 1993.
To participate, neighborhood coordinators can hold a block party, a community watch meeting, a meet-and-greet, or any other activity that brings the neighborhood together. The City of Sanford’s police and fire departments will visit each participating neighborhood throughout the evening.
“Our goal is to connect with our community and bring neighbors together in a fun and safe way for all involved,” says Kelly Miller, public information officer and National Night Out program coordinator for the City of Sanford.
Registration is now open on the City’s website at www.sanfordnc.net/nno. Registration will close on September 22, 2023.
The Sanford Fire Department will again use National Night Out as an opportunity to share fire prevention tips and to educate residents about the department’s free smoke detector program. City residents who need a smoke detector should contact the department at 919-777-1301 immediately to schedule an installation.
Prior to 2022, Sanford celebrated NNO on the first August of each year. However, the event was moved to October due to the cooler temperatures, which makes it more manageable for neighborhoods with an aging population.
