Waste Industries, the City of Sanford’s household solid waste contractor, has notified the City that garbage and recycling collection for residences within Sanford’s city limits will be delayed until Monday, January 8.
On January 8, Waste Industries will add additional resources to begin collection with Monday’s route. They will then work through the regular schedule to collect garbage and recycling for every household.
Waste Industries made this decision after considering many variables, including road safety, driver hours of service, and permit conditions that regulate how garbage is stored.
Important: This is a disruption of service for households with uncollected garbage and recycling from January 3 through January 5. Waste Industries has assured the City that they will collect all bagged garbage left adjacent to garbage carts due to space constraints.
Many residents have expressed concern about removing carts from the curb in the icy conditions. Carts can remain in place for the delayed pickup. If the curb is covered with snow or ice, residents can place the carts on the street taking care not to obstruct traffic.
This collection procedure is effective for the following Waste Industries service areas: Broadway, Sanford, Siler City, and Southern Pines.
