The following information is shared on behalf of Lee County Government as a courtesy to residents of the City of Sanford.
UPDATE: The Lee County Government (LCG) Health Department has limited registration for the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals defined in Phase 1B – Group 1 (individuals age 75 and older) of the North Carolina vaccine rollout plan. The decision to scale back registration for Phase 1B to only Group 1 reflects the overwhelming response the Health Department has received on the first day of open registration for Phase 1B.

The Lee County Government Health Department will open registration for the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals defined in phase 1b of the North Carolina vaccine rollout plan beginning Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
The Health Department does not have a confirmed date to begin administering the vaccine to phase 1b individuals; however, the registration process allows individuals to sign-up to be ready when additional vaccine becomes available in Lee County.
How to Register
Individuals in phase 1b may register by calling 919-721-4769 or 984-368-2112 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Registration is open to all groups in phase 1a and 1b; individuals that fall into phase 2, 3 and 4 are not eligible to register at this time.
Phase 1b includes three groups:
- Group 1: Anyone 75 years or older, regardless of health status or living situation
- Group 2: Health care workers and frontline essential workers 50 years or older
- Group 3: Health care workers and frontline essential workers of any age
Who Can Register
The CDC defines frontline essential workers as first responders (e.g., firefighters and police officers); corrections officers; food and agricultural workers; U.S. Postal Service workers; manufacturing workers; grocery store workers; public transit workers; and those who work in the education sector (teachers and support staff members) as well as child care workers.
The Lee County Health Department invites all individuals designated in phase 1b to register but at this time, the department is only administering the vaccine to individuals designated in phase 1a. As additional vaccine becomes available in Lee County, the vaccine will be administered to individuals in phase 1b by order of the group priority.
Vaccine Status
The public is reminded that the COVID-19 vaccine is in limited supply; vaccinating individuals eligible in phase 1a and phase 1b will take several weeks to a few months; exact timing is dependent upon the number of individuals that choose to be vaccinated, as well as the amount of vaccine distributed to the county.
The Health Department will continue to provide weekly updates on the status of vaccine availability in Lee County as new information becomes available.
