[ARCHIVED] Lee County Schedules Two COVID-19 Drive-Thur Community Testing Events

Lee County Government

The following release is shared on behalf of Lee County Government as a courtesy to City of Sanford residents.

Lee County Government (LCG) Health Department has scheduled two COVID-19 drive-thru community testing events on Tuesday, July 7th and Tuesday, July 28th.  Both events will take place from 8:30 AM until 5:30 PM at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center located at 1801 Nash Street in Sanford, NC.  The Health Department is working in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Piedmont Health, and UNC Health to provide these free testing opportunities to the public.

“We have seen growing interest and demand from the community for increased testing in the county,” said Heath Cain, LCG Health Director.  “We exceeded anticipated testing numbers at our last event and those that did not pre-register had to be turned away.  We are anticipating high interest again; however, only individuals that have pre-registered are guaranteed a testing spot.  Testing is crucial to slowing the spread of COVID-19 in Lee County and we want to test as many people as possible.  Help us prepare by pre-registering to avoid missing these testing opportunities.”

To register for either the July 7th or July 28th testing events, please call 919-542-4991 ext. 1015 for English or 1016 for Spanish.  Calls will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 5 PM and on Saturday from 8 AM until 1 PM.  Please note that due to the July 4th holiday, calls will not be accepted on Friday, July 3rd or Saturday, July 4th.

The criteria for testing include:

  • anyone with COVID 19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, and/or sore throat); and
  • close contacts of known positive cases, regardless of symptoms; and
  • anyone at higher risk of exposure or at a higher risk for severe disease, regardless of symptoms.

Due to patient privacy concerns, photographs and video will not be permitted during the active testing event period. Media are invited to visit the testing site at 8 AM on Tuesday, July 7th to view the testing area and set-up. Lee County Government Health Director, Heath Cain will be on-site to answer questions.

For additional information and questions, please contact Jamie Brown, Community & Governmental Relations Manager at 919-718-4605 or jbrown@leecountync.gov.
