Though some COVID-related restrictions will ease beginning May 8 at 5:00 p.m., all municipal parks remain closed until further notice.
On May 5, 2020, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that the state of North Carolina will move into Phase 1 of reopening following the March 30 Stay at Home executive order. While Phase 1 encourages opening parks and trails, it does not allow for opening playgrounds.
To protect the public and employees and to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Sanford closed all municipal parks on March 20, 2020.
The City of Sanford owns or operates eight parks in Sanford’s city limits: Depot Park, the front section of Kiwanis Family Park, Walter McNeil Jr. Park, Third Street Park, Maple Avenue Park, Carr Creek Park, Sunset Park, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
Important: The Endor Iron Furnace Greenway and Kiwanis Family Park walking trails have remained open to the public during the COVID response. These facilities will continue to be open to the public.
The City of Sanford encourages the public to continue practicing physical distancing and hand washing best practices. We will rely on guidance from public health authorities to make decisions that are in the best interest of our community.
