The North Carolina Forest Service and Lee County Fire Marshal’s Office have lifted the statewide and local burn bans, effective immediately.
The statewide and local burn bans went into effect on March 21, 2025, due to hazardous forest fire conditions. All burning permits were cancelled and open burning was prohibited for the entire state of North Carolina.
Important: Though the burn bans have been lifted, open burning is prohibited inside Sanford’s city limits. Questions about what qualifies as open burning can be directed to the Sanford Fire Department at 919-777-1302.
Lee County residents living outside of Sanford’s city limits can direct questions to the Lee County Fire Marshal’s Office at 919-718-4670.
