[ARCHIVED] Advisory: Several Downtown Streets Closed on Saturday, October 12

Downtown Sanford StreetFest & Fireworks

Several downtown Sanford streets will be closed on Saturday, October 12 for the Downtown StreetFest & Fireworks festival. The following streets will be closed:

  • From 6am to 6pm:
    • Steele Street from Gordon Street to Wicker Street
    • Carthage Street from Horner Blvd to Moore Street
    • St. Clair Court
  • From 6am to 10pm:
    • Wicker Street from Horner Blvd to Moore Street 
    • Moore Street from Carthage Street to Wicker Street

The closures will affect access to other events scheduled in downtown this Saturday, namely the Sanford Farmers' Market, SAGA's Children's Business Fair, the Brush & Palette Club's 59th Annual Art Show, and Temple Theatre's productions of "Ring of Fire."

These events can be accessed as follows:

  • If you're traveling south on Horner Blvd: Turn left onto Weatherspoon Street and turn right onto Hawkins Avenue.
     
  • If you're traveling north on Horner Blvd: Turn right onto Gordon Street, right onto Moore Street, and then left onto Charlotte Avenue OR turn right onto Rose Street, left onto Chatham Street, and then right onto McIver Street.
     
  • If you're traveling south on US Hwy 1: Take Exit 71, from the roundabout, exit onto Hawkins Avenue toward downtown.
     
  • If you're traveling north on US Hwy 1: Take the Spring Lane exit, turn right onto Spring Lane, turn left onto Weatherspoon Street, cross Horner Blvd, and turn right onto Hawkins Avenue.

To help residents and visitors access all the exciting events happening in downtown, the City of Sanford has sponsored a free trolley service that will pick up from Wilkins Auto at 412 Wicker Street and the Mann Center at 507 N. Steele Street. The trolley will drop off at the intersection of Gordon and Wicker streets and at Depot Park. View a map of available public parking in downtown here.
