The City of Sanford is working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to study mobility hub options for Sanford.
A mobility hub is an accessible, central location for transit services, such as rail, bike, and rideshare options. Typically, mobility hubs also offer amenities and supporting technologies like charging stations, a plaza or mini park, and bike and scooter rentals.
This study is part of the S-Line rail project, which could connect Sanford to Raleigh and other communities to the north. This potential 95-mile corridor would bring passenger rail back to Sanford, through the mobility hub.
2 Options for Public Input
Community members are invited to a drop-in open house on Tuesday, June 25 to discuss Sanford’s mobility needs, learn more about mobility hub options and related economic development opportunities, and share their vision for or concerns about a potential hub.
The open house will be held in the Buggy Conference Room of the Buggy Building, located at 115 Chatham Street. Staff and consultants will share information and collect feedback from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The City has also created a survey to better understand the types of transportation currently in use in Sanford. The survey provides an opportunity for respondents to share their thoughts about meeting the city’s mobility needs now and in the future. Take the survey at www.sanfordnc.net/mobilityhub.
Note, the survey is an additional tool for collecting feedback about mobility hub planning in Sanford. Staff’s goal is for the public to participate in both input opportunities.
