Registration has opened for the 2024 session of Sanford 101 – previously called Sanford Citizens’ Academy.
First conceived in 2014, Sanford 101’s mission is to educate city residents about how their municipal government functions. At the end of the program, participants should have a greater understanding of how and why municipal decisions are made – and become more engaged in that process.
The 2024 session will run on Monday evenings for 13 weeks starting July 8. Each week will feature a different department, including police, fire, parks, tourism, and economic development. Some standout sessions include trips to the Raleigh Exec Jetport and Sanford Municipal Golf Course.
“We want our residents to understand and be engaged in the decision-making process,” explains Mayor Rebecca Wyhof Salmon. “Those who participate in Sanford 101 serve as creative and thoughtful ambassadors for local government and advocates for their communities.”
Participants will spend time with head staff in each department and be able to ask their most pressing questions. There will also be a special discussion with and recognition by Sanford City Council.
Enrollment is limited to 12 participants to ensure everyone has a rich, unique experience. Registration will end on July 1 or when spaces are full.
