At the end of June, the Sanford City Council will make 22 appointments to 11 municipal boards and commissions. That means residents have 22 opportunities to make a difference in their city.
Descriptions and bylaws for the City’s boards and commissions are shared at www.sanfordnc.net/boards. There is also a list of vacancies, kept current by the City Clerk. The vacancies for July 1 are:
- ABC Board – 1 appointment
- Airport Authority – 1 appointment
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – 1 Health Care/Medical Profession appointment
- Appearance Commission – 2 appointments
- Board of Adjustment (also serves as the Housing Board of Appeals) – 2 appointments
- Historic Preservation Commission – 3 appointments
- Joint Environmental Affairs Board – 1 appointment
- Parks Commission – 2 appointments
- Planning Board – 1 appointment
- Sanford Housing Authority – 4 appointments
- Sanford Tourism Development Authority – 1 Hotelier appointment, 2 Business/Tourism appointments
Each appointment is for a 3-year term that will begin on July 1, 2024. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old and be registered to vote in the City.
Applications are available from the City Clerk at the Sanford Municipal Center or at www.sanfordnc.net/boards. Applicants may submit letters of reference, petitions by advocates of the appointment, and any other written information to be considered in the selection process.
Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2024. Sanford City Council will review the applications and determine appointments by July 1.
