The City of Sanford is celebrating its sesquicentennial year with a 150th Birthday Bash at the Sanford Lions Club Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 6 – and everyone is invited.
Sanford was first incorporated as a town on February 11, 1874. That incorporation went into effect on April 1, 1874. While our incorporation date was recognized with a proclamation in Council Chambers, the goal for April is to include everyone in the celebration.
The 150th Birthday Bash will begin with remarks and special recognitions at 10:30 a.m., followed by an afternoon of history displays, train rides, live music, games, inflatables, a petting zoo, food trucks, and more. Free birthday cake and ice cream will be available while supplies last.
“The sesquicentennial gives us a wonderful opportunity to honor our past and celebrate our future,” says Mayor Rebecca Wyhof Salmon. “I am excited for everyone to come together at the Birthday Bash to celebrate the city and community we love.”
While partying at Sanford’s big 150th, attendees can purchase special sesquicentennial merchandise from Visit Sanford. Options will include t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, commemorative coins, and a commemorative poster designed by Seth Hoyle.
“We invite everyone to join the City’s celebration on April 6,” says Wendy Bryan, executive director for Visit Sanford. “Visit Sanford is excited to help showcase the music, food, and festivities that will make the day truly memorable.”
