[ARCHIVED] City Responds to Expiration of Executive Orders 124/142

City Seal

On March 31, 2020, Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order No 124, which suspended fees and disconnections for utility services. The executive order expired on July 29, 2020.

Therefore, the City of Sanford will resume normal delinquency procedures, which include applying fees and disconnecting service for late payments beginning September 8, 2020.

Prevent Disconnection

To prevent fees and disconnection, the amount listed for “current charges” on utility bills due after July 29, 2020 must be paid in full by the due date. (See blue box in a sample bill here.)

Past Due Amounts

Any “past due amount” or “unpaid balance” from bills that were due between March 1, 2020 and July 29, 2020 must be paid in full – or customers must opt-in to a payment plan – before August 31, 2020. Failure to request a payment plan by August 31 will result in disconnection. (See red box in a sample bill here.)

Payment Plans

To request a payment plan, call the Customer Service Department at 919-775-8215 any time between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
