Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)

The CAD is the primary computer system which aids PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) telecommunicators by automating selected dispatching and record keeping activities. The City of Sanford's CAD system is provided by OSSI (Open Software Solutions, Inc.) of Greensboro, NC.

Radio Consoles

The radio consoles are provided by Motorola. The console screens are touch screen allowing the telecommunicator to touch an image on the screen in order to transmit a message to field units.

The consoles are computer based and integrated with equipment in another part of the building allowing connectivity with the radio transmitters off-site at radio antenna towers at various locations.

Telephones

The telephone system used by the communications center is Positron VIPER. Once again the telephones are merely computer based equipment with touch screen technology allowing the telecommunicator to answer any of the 6 9-1-1 lines or 9 administrative lines in the center.

The various telephone lines answered in the communications center are as follows:
  • Communications 1
  • Fire/EMS administrative alarm 1
  • Police Administrative 4
  • Sanford 1
  • Shearon Harris Emergency 1
    • Sanford lies within the 10-mile EPZ of Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant in Wake County.
  • TTY/TDD 1
  • Wireless 9-1-1 2
  • Wireline 9-1-1 4
