N.C. General Statute 130A-309.10 (f) prohibits certain solid materials from being disposed in landfills, aiming to promote recycling and reduce landfill burden. Computer equipment, televisions, and other household corded items are on the list of prohibited items.
To help Sanford residents correctly dispose of prohibited electronic waste, the City of Sanford offers residential e-waste collection on the same schedule as bulk trash and yard waste.
How it works: City crews identify e-waste placed at residential curbs and schedule those items to be collected. E-waste, bulk trash, leaves, and limbs should be placed separately.
Acceptable E-Waste
The following items can be placed at the curb for collection as e-waste:
- Televisions
- Computers
- Monitors and other video display units
- Printers, copiers, and any other devices designed to produce hard paper copies from a computer
- Scanners
- Peripheral computer equipment, except keyboards and mice
- Cables, cords and adapters to these items
- Microwaves
- Radios
- Telephones and smart phones
- VCRs and DVD players
- Answering machines
- Fax machines
Collection Schedule
E-waste is collected on the same schedule as bulk trash and yard waste.
