National Night Out

Program Overview

National Night Out (NNO) is a community police partnership that aims to:

• Generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs,
• Heighten crime prevention awareness,
• Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back, and
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit.

NNO provides an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know your elected and city officials, fire fighters, local police officers, and neighbors.

NNO 2026

In 2026, the City of Sanford will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. Registration will open in May 2026. Subscribe to receive news and announcements here.

All registered neighborhoods will receive visits from the Sanford Police Department, Sanford Fire Department, municipal officials, and municipal staff. Visits will start after 4pm. No visits will take place after 9pm.

Bonus! All site coordinators who register their neighborhoods by June 30, 2026, are guaranteed a merchandise kit that contains a promotional banner, t-shirts, caps, and items for youth. After June 30, kits will be supplied as available.

Project 365: Fire Safety & Prevention

Our focus during NNO is fire safety and prevention. The Sanford Fire Department shares fire prevention materials and raises awareness about the importance of smoke detectors in every home. Smoke detectors and installation are offered to all participants.

30+ Years of Participation

The City of Sanford has participated in National Night Out since 1993. Each year, the City has won the NNO National Award for recognition of outstanding participation in America's Night Out Against Crime.

In 2017, our program placed first in the nation for our population size and first in the state across all population sizes.
