The Sanford Appearance Commission and the Rotary Club of Sanford invite the community to celebrate the dedication of a new mural honoring the club’s 100 years of service in Sanford.
The dedication ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 5 p.m. at 529 Wicker Street in Sanford. The event was previously scheduled for September 29, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The mural, located on the west-facing wall of the building, was designed and painted by artist Lacey Crime of Raeford.
“This mural is dedicated to 100 years of the club’s service to our community, and it was made possible through the generous support of local individuals and businesses,” said Shannon Suggs-Welch, treasurer of the Rotary Club of Sanford.
The design incorporates images representing key areas of Rotary’s service, from global efforts like the End Polio Now campaign to local initiatives such as school supply drives, meal programs, and community cleanups. Silhouettes of adults and children in the background emphasize that the mural tells a story of service across all ages.
“This project is a beautiful tribute not only to Rotary’s legacy of service but also to the role public art plays in strengthening community pride and identity,” said Liz Whitmore, historic planner for the City of Sanford and liaison to the Appearance Commission.
The community is encouraged to attend the dedication to view the mural, celebrate the club’s milestone, and support ongoing efforts to showcase public art in Sanford.
