A Lee County native, J.D. Williams was first elected to the Sanford
City Council in 1995 and continues his work to enhance the local
community and pass legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly
forbidding the state from withholding funding designated for cities.
Williams attended Central Carolina Community
College and Fayetteville Technical Community College, receiving an
associates degree in business and insurance. He is lead singer and
manager for the Gospel Echoes traveling gospel group and a member of
New Zion Baptist Church.
He and his wife, Gloria Clegg Williams, live in
the Jonesboro Township. They have two daughters, Angela Murchison and
Dawn R. Williams, and four grandchildren.
