The City of Sanford has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Central Carolina to offer the second annual Sanford Youth Academy for high school youth.
The program will run the week of July 9 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for boys and girls in rising ninth through twelfth grades at the Boys & Girls Clubs facility on Bragg Street. The teen program is free, but participants must register by June 29. Lunch and a snack is included.
The program will offer insight into the City’s first response departments, including the Sanford Police Department and Sanford Fire Department. Participants will also visit the Lee County Courthouse, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Lee County Jail. Additionally, the program will offer recreational opportunities for youth to engage in positive learning experiences.
The goal for the Sanford Youth Academy is to strengthen relationships between local youth and first responders, while also exposing youth to potential career paths. To apply, call the Boys & Girls Club of Central Carolina at 919-776-3525.
“I am grateful for the opportunities our young people will have to interact with local law enforcement and the local judicial system,” says Daniel Simmons, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina. “This is key to promoting understanding, respect, and mutual support between our local citizens and those who protect and serve our citizens. Our organization is proud and thankful to play a part in this effort.”
