The City Council has approved the formation of a commission to recommend a plan for education and prevention, treatment and rehabilitation and enforcement to combat the opioid epidemic. The commission is the "Commission on the Opioid Abuse Epidemic."
The Commission on the Opioid Abuse Epidemic shall be comprised of seven (7) voting members: three (3) appointed At Large for a (term ending 2020, 2021 and 2022); one representative (1) from the Lee County Sheriff s Department (term ending 2021), one (1) representative from the Sanford Police Department (term ending 2021), one (1) representative from a Treatment Facility (term ending 2020); and one (1) representative from the Medical Community (term ending 2022). In addition, two representatives of the Sanford City Council, who serve at the appointment of the Council, shall be ex-officio, non-voting members.
Thereafter, all appointments or reappointments will be for three-year terms.
