The Wastewater
Treatment Plant has a permitted capacity of 6.8 million
gallons per day. The plant is an advanced treatment
facility with a state-certified laboratory, pretreatment
facilities, aeration tanks, clarifiers, filters, chlorination
and dechlorination systems, and solids handling facility.
The treated wastewater discharges through an outfall
pipe into the Deep River near Cumnock. The solids are
removed from the wastewater and are applied to permitted
farmland in Lee County and surrounding areas. The solids
provide moisture, nutrients, and conditioning to the
soil for farmers.
The Wastewater Treatment Plants goal is to provide
county wide treatment of residential and commercial
wastewater to assure compliance with the changing environmental
regulations.
