The City of Sanford's
customers are fortunate because we enjoy an abundant water supply from a single
surface water source, the Cape Fear River. The Haw, the Deep River, and the
Rocky River form the headwaters of the Cape Fear River Basin. The water treatment
plant is located on Highway 42 and serves the City of Sanford, Town of Broadway,
and parts of Lee and Chatham Counties. Due to upgrades in treatment processes
and water distribution system improvements, our treatment plant can provide
a capacity of 12 million gallons per day. Our treatment facility provides
roughly 2 billion gallons of clean drinking water every year.
