| AGE |
| Minimum
of 20 years as of date of application. |
| WEIGHT |
| Must
be commensurate with height and body frame. |
| PHYSICAL CONDITION |
| Must be in excellent physical condition with no obvious condition, which will impair performance of Police duties. |
| EDUCATION |
| As
a minimum, an applicant must have graduated from an accredited high school
or hold an approved General Education Development Certificate; college
or university level education desired. |
| CITIZENSHIP |
| Must
be a citizen of the United States, and must have resided in North Carolina
for 12 months immediately preceding date of application.
Military service in North Carolina qualifies. |
| CRIMINAL HISTORY |
| Must
not have pled guilty to, entered plea of no contest to or have been convicted
of any crime other than a minor misdemeanor; must not, during the three
years preceding the date of his/her application have been convicted of
a traffic offense which required suspension or revocation of driving privileges;
must not have accumulated more than six points against his/her driving
record during the proceeding three years. An applicant must meet the minimum standards for law enforcement
officers established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and
Standards Division. |
| ACCEPTANCE OF CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS |
|
Must
be willing to live within the reasonable commuting distance of the Sanford
Police Department Headquarters. |
| VISION REQUIREMENTS |
| Must
have 20/20 vision in each eye; uncorrected vision of no more than 20/50
in each eye is acceptable if corrected with lens; must not be color
blind or affected by night blindness. Must pass depth perception test. |
| BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION |
| Must
satisfactorily pass thorough background investigation, including a check
of State and Federal Bureau of Investigation Records. |
| APPLICANT REVIEW BOARD |
| The
Sanford Police Department’s Applicant Review Board must interview applicants. |
| PHYSICAL EXAMINATION |
| Must
met physical standards set by an approved physician. |
| SCREENING |
| Must pass polygraph, psychological and drug screening. |
| CERTIFICATIONS |
| Must
be B.L.E.T. Certified through North Carolina Criminal Justice Training
and Standards Division. |
