The Sister Cities Association of Sanford announces that Sister Cities International (SCI) is now accepting submissions for the annual Young Artists and Authors Showcase.
Youth ages 13-18 can submit two-dimensional, unframed works of art, poetry, and essays centering around this year’s theme of “One World: Out of Many, We are One.” Youth ages 13-22 can submit photography based on the same theme.
The goal of the Young Artists and Authors Showcase is to highlight citizen diplomacy and the creative ways communities can create peace through people-to-people interaction.
The Showcase is an annual contest to encourage youth around the world to express SCI’s mission, which is to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation through programs, exchanges, community, and worldwide engagement – one individual, one community at a time.
SCI’s mission is reflected in the Sister Cities Association of Sanford’s goals of cultural exchange, economic development, and educational opportunities. The organization has focused on the arts as a way to celebrate Sanford’s unique connections with its sister cities of Yixing, China and Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico.
Full eligibility requirements and submission guidelines are posted on the Showcase website here. Materials must be submitted by April 3, 2020.
