[ARCHIVED] Municipal Center Walkways to Close

City Seal

The walkways to the Sanford Municipal Center entrances will close starting tomorrow for new construction.

The walkway to the Customer Service entrance will close first. Both the brick walkway and the stairs leading to the upper level will close on Wednesday, Dec. 18 and remain closed through the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 20.

Detour: To access the Customer Service areas along with Administration and Engineering departments, visitors will be directed to enter through the Sanford Police Department, located on the lower level of the facility. From there, they can use the elevator and follow posted signs to their destination.

Construction on the walkway to the Sanford Police Department entrance is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 26, barring inclement weather. The walkway should be open for visitors by Monday, Dec. 30.

Detour: Police department visitors will be directed to enter through the upper level of the facility and take the elevator downstairs. Crews will construct a sidepath for visitors to use when the upper level is closed, such as for the Christmas holiday and after business hours. A phone number will be posted for people with disabilities who need a more accessible entrance.

The new walkways will reflect Sanford’s streetscape aesthetic by incorporating concrete and brick. The existing brick pavers will be reused in the design.

For both closures, directional signs will be posted outside and inside the facility.
