The Sanford Fire Department received a $10,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to purchase new personal flotation devices to more safely and efficiently perform water rescues.
The department was one of 65 organizations in North Carolina to collectively receive $1.1 million in grants from the Duke Energy Foundation for storm resiliency. The funding will help North Carolina communities increase their response capabilities for future weather events with advance preparation and planning.
“We are so grateful to have this opportunity to upgrade our equipment and to ensure the safety of our personnel and the residents of Sanford in the event of an emergency situation,” says Ken Cotten, deputy chief of the Sanford Fire Department.
The Duke Energy Foundation’s Powerful Communities program makes strategic investments to build powerful communities where our natural resources thrive, students can excel, and a talented workforce drives economic prosperity for all.
The Foundation annually funds more than $30 million to communities throughout Duke Energy’s seven-state service area.
