The Deputy City Clerk is appointed by the City Council. The Deputy City Clerk performs general office duties and has the authority to exercise and perform powers and duties of City Clerk in City Clerk’s absence.

Janice Cox came to the City of Sanford in June 2000 after 32 years as a high school English teacher. Janice is very active in the Sanford community as a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Sanford Women's Club. She is also a retired board member of the Lee County Arts Council and Lee County Orchestra.

In May 2007 Hal Hegwer was appointed the City of Sanford's 4th Manager in 36 years.


City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in City Hall's Council Chambers at 7:00pm.


All Council meetings are aired on Channel 11, the city's government access channel, on Charter Communications for one week following the meeting at 3pm, 6pm, & 10pm.
