Lee County, Sanford, and Broadway declared a State of Emergency on September 12, 2018 that enacted a county-wide curfew.
The curfew began at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018. When enacted, the curfew was to remain in effect until rescinded.
The City of Sanford has now set the curfew to expire at dawn on Saturday, September 15, 2018 for residents living inside Sanford's city limits. Another curfew may be imposed if conditions in Sanford deteriorate due to continuing threats from Hurricane Florence.
The original and any subsequent curfews will include exemptions for:
police or public safety officers or other government employees engaged in official business;
members, volunteers or employees of an organization providing disaster relief services; medical service providers engaged in the delivery of medical services;
members of the news media engaged in duties essential to providing public information; and
any citizens commuting to or from employment.
All individuals impacted by the exemption must carry proper identification during the hours the curfew is in effect.
Though the curfew will expire at dawn, the City of Sanford encourages residents to be cautious and stay off the roadways so as not to interfere with efforts of emergency responders and repair crews.
