National Night Out

Program Overview

National Night Out (NNO) is a community police partnership that aims to:
  • Generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs,
  • Heighten crime prevention awareness,
  • Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back, and
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit.
NNO provides an excellent opportunity to meet and get to know your elected and city officials, fire fighters, local police officers, and neighbors.

Join in the NNO Fun

National Night Out in Sanford is always held on the first Tuesday of August. For 2017, the date is August 1. However, we have planned two precursor events to get the community in the NNO spirit:

30+ Years of Participation

The City of Sanford has participated in National Night Out since 1994. Each year, the City has won the NNO National Award for recognition of outstanding participation in America's Night Out Against Crime.

In 2014, the City placed third in the nation for its population category and first in the state for all population sizes. In 2015 and 2016, the City placed second in the nation for its population category.
